This is the first day of the UCU strikes this term, but also a wider rally to defend the right to strike in the face of the government’s recent anti-strike legislation. The right to strike is fundamental to democracy and this legislation threatens the ability of workers to demand better pay and conditions.

We will rally on Parkers Piece by the cricket pavilion at 11am, then march through Cambridge City Centre pass picket lines towards a rally at the Guildhall at 12-12.30pm. UCU members will gather at our picket sites at the University, before making our way to the rally at Parkers Piece.

As well as UCU, The Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF), the National Education Union (NEU), the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT), and the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) have all balloted for strike action on February 1st.

Please join us, bring your friends, colleagues and families.
