An update from our Green Rep Rasha Rezk, on behalf of the Cambridge UCU Executive Committee:
Beginning this weekend, and continuing for the following week, Extinction Rebellion (XR) Cambridge and XR Youth Cambridge will be staging a series of disruptive actions in the city. Their demands include the total divestment of the University of Cambridge’s funds from fossil fuels. Both XR groups are part of our community in Cambridge. The University has so far ignored the many calls to divest from fossil fuel investments and donations, so the strength of feeling from the community comes as no surprise. Instead of panicked arrangements to avoid disruption, the University should focus its efforts on fulfilling its obligation to divest. The University should also use its considerable status to pressure the USS pension scheme into pursuing a path of greener and more ethical investment.
