Pickets

Sign up to picket!

What is a picket line? It’s a symbolic barrier around the workplace (in this case all University premises) that UCU asks staff and students not to cross. See here for our national guidance for pickets.

How can I sign up? If you’re a UCU member, you’ll have received several emails with a link to the picket rota, and you can just sign up for the slots and locations you prefer. If you want a reminder of how to access the rota, just get in touch with us at admin@ucu.cam.ac.uk.

Picketing can be an enjoyable, sociable, and even sunny experience! The pickets give staff the confidence to strike, place pressure on management, and provide an opportunity to explain to students why we’re taking action. Even if you are not part of the dispute please visit the pickets and show your support!

Our pickets for the fourteen days of strike, escalating from Thursday 20 February to Friday 13 March, are as follows:

  • Downing Site: 7.30am to 12.15pm
  • Old Schools: 7.30am to 12.15pm
  • Sidgwick: 8.30am – 12.15pm
  • West Cambridge: 7.30am to 12noon
  • Faculty of Education: 8.30am to 12noon
  • Addenbrooke’s: 7:30-12noon

Further satellite pickets may be organised at Engineering and New Museums as the strike develops; for more details, keep checking our website, as well as branch emails and social media feeds.

We are especially looking for ‘Picket Supervisors’ for each site, on each day. This just means being a point of contact: you don’t have to be present the whole time, but you’ll need to be able to get to the picket within 10 minutes. If you can commit to being a supervisor on any day, please sign up on the rota!

Join us for an end-of-picket rally, held every day at 12:30 on King’s Parade, where we’ll be focusing on the reasons we’re out on strike. And come along to our programme of teach outs in the afternoon!
